[ EDITOR’S NOTE ]

It’s a Web site!

Like expectant fathers pacing a hospital waiting room, we here at Tobacco Retailer had been on pins and needles the final weeks of February. We had been anxiously awaiting an arrival and now that the due date was drawing closer, we could hardly contain our excitement.

Then, on May 19, we got the good news: “We are LIVE!”

Yes, on that day we welcomed a bouncing bundle of joy we call the redesigned www.tobaccoretailer.com Web site to the world.

After months of conference calls, design work and test runs, we hope we have created an online destination –  one that we have dubbed “The online information source for the CTS industry” – that provides added value to the valued readers of our print publication.

The redesigned Web site was created to enhance our print product, not replace it. The bi-monthly issue of TR will continue to contain all of the news, features, columns, show previews and reviews, and product roundups that you’ve come to expect from the industry’s preeminent publication. The Web site will include the editorial content that appears in print, but it will also offer what we think are some exciting extras.

Among those are a Daily News section, handy links to National and Regional Trade Associations, a complete Calendar of industry events, fingertip access to our annual Sourcebook company directory, Archives of past print issues, a Bookstore where industry-specific publications can be purchased, and a Forum area where visitors to the site can enter chat groups that discuss issues pertinent to the industry.

The best thing, however, is that all of this information is FREE to the viewer. We hope that you will take the time to give it a look and if you like what you see, add the page to the Favorites folder in your Web browser.

If you have any comments about anything pertaining to the new Web site, god or bad, you can e-mail them to me at ctraczek@aip.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Happy surfing.

Clarification
In our February issue, we ran a news item on page 19 titled “Study: Children’s test scores linked to secondhand smoke.” That news item, which referenced a report in USA Today, cited a study that was published in Environmental Health Perspectives that said that “tobacco exposure hurts children’s intellectual development.”

In no way, despite printing the item, did we mean to appear to endorse the study’s findings or imply that we agreed with them. In fact, the study and its results  – which some have told us are specious, at best – might better be used as an example of the lengths that anti-smoking advocates will go to damage the tobacco industry in the public eye.

We apologize for any confusion.
